Grades of PTFE raw materials
Many drawings just specify PTFE (or if USA origin, TFE) as the choice of material. However, the following points should be considered:
- There are several standards used to specify the quality of PTFE to be used when manufacturing a product.
- There are many different grades of PTFE raw materials produced, each can influence the properties of the finished component
- Various trade names are used when specifying materials on designs. In most cases we can source to the exact specification or offer an alternative
- The processing method used to convert PTFE raw material into a semi-finished stock shape will affect the properties of your finished component
- Dyneon® developed a second generation of PTFE called TFM®. This offers different properties to PTFE such as lower permeation, better surface finish and higher transparency. We process the full range of TFM® materials and their equivalents.
With over 40 years experience of manufacturing PTFE components, fabrications and assemblies we are well placed to answer any question you have about PTFE; from technical information through to guidance on design, application and manufacture.
